NAYPYITAW (14 Dec 2013) – Thailand showed this evening that the women’s Futsal gold is as good as theirs for the taking when they demolished 2011 SEA Games losing finalists Vietnam 6-1 at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium.
The victory was Thailand’s second in the round robin competition after blasting Indonesia 4-0 in the tournament opener on 10 December.
“We are closing in on the title,” said Thailand team secretary Songsak Khamdee. “We have to win the gold, there’s just no two way about it.”
But it was Vietnam who took the lead in the eagerly-anticipated tie when Thi Thanh Nguyen found the back of the net in the 15th minute. But the goal would last only a minute before Orathai Sreemanee nailed the equalizer as Sasicha Pothiwong and Darika Pianpairun scored two quick goals in the same 19th minute for Thailand to put their noses 3-1 in front at the break.
More composed going into the second half, Vietnam pushed hard in search of their second goal but it was Orathai who destroyed Vietnam with a prowling strike on 28 minute.
Prapasporn Sriroj and then Praepan Hengpew then finished things off with two more goals in the 30th and 36th minute respectively to give Thailand the comprehensive victory.
