YANGON (7 Dec 2013) – Men’s football had always been the hottest ticket at the SEA Games and it will be no different this time round here in Myanmar.
Today is the first day of competition in men’s football when teams from Group B will take to the field here at the Youth Training Centre with Timor Leste taking on Thailand in the first game and then hosts Myanmar entertaining Cambodia in the second tie.
Tickets have already been sold over the last week on a piece meal basis at the 32,000 capacity stadium with a limit placed on just two tickets person.
The grandstand has been priced at KYT4,000 (USD 4) each with organisers printing only 12,000 seats with the remainder being the terrace priced at KYT2,000 (USD 2).
But while organisers are confident that there will not be any counterfeit tickets due to the high level of security placed on them, still scalpers – as it is everywhere else in the world – is something which is not easy to be rid of.
It is believed that even with the two-ticket limit, scalpers are already at work where considering that Myanmar will be playing today, there are already offers of at least five times the face value.
And once, it reached the semi-finals and on to the final, the pricing will be a lot higher with organisers already planning to increase the price of the tickets being sold.
