NAYPYITAW (17 Dec 2013) – It has often been said about Thai Futsal that even on a bad day, they can still beat anyone in ASEAN. And Vic Hermans men certainly proved this today when they thrashed hosts Myanmar 8-1 in the second semi-final of the men’s Futsal event at the Naypyitaw Futsal Stadium here.
With the win, Thailand will take on Vietnam in the final of the event in three days at the same venue.
“Yes we won even though we did not play so well,” said Hermans after the match. “In the final, it is important that we do better. It is not about showing quality but rather, the team must have the right teamwork which is more important.
“And if we have to realise that even though we have beaten Vietnam before, the script might change if we take things for granted.”
As Hermans had said previously and he meant no disrespect to Myanmar, beating the hosts is a matter of course but for him, the manner with which the victory was achieved is of far more importance.
In the first half, the Thais did not move around so much where as a result, they only managed to score three goals through Piyanat Nusaya (5th minute), Suphawut Thueanklang (10th) and Chaivat Jamgrajang (16th).
There were a lot more tenacity to the Thai game after the break and with more mobility and exceptional touches, the ASEAN champions added further goals through Piyapan Ratana (25th), Kritsada Wongkaeo (30th), Suphawut (30th), Jetsada Chudech (36th) and Wiwat Thaijaroen (37th).
Myanmar’s only goal of the game came off Pyae Phyo Maung in the 36th minute.
“We tried hard in the game but Thailand are of different class,” admitted Myanmar coach Saeid khodarahmi.
