MANDALAY (14 Dec 2013) – The Thai women football team took a step closer to the semi-finals of the event here at the SEA Games when they crushed Malaysia 6-1 in a Group B tie of the event at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium in Mandalay.
With just three teams in the group, Thailand’s win made sure that they lead the standings even though they still have another match to play for – against Laos in two days at the same venue.
But with Laos having conceded a loss to Malaysia in their first match, they will have to beat Thailand to make sure that they have any realistic chance into the final four.
This evening though, Thailand showed that they are very much a different team that played at the AFF Women’s Football Championship in September as they controlled the game for Anutsara Maijoroen to find the back of the net twice in the 15th and 44th minute lead for a 2-0 advantage into the second half.
With Ainon Pancha adding to the tally just six minutes after the restart, Darat Changplook then made it 4-0 to the Thais in the 59th minute.
And while Malaysia did managed to pull a goal back off Shihaya Ajad in the 78th minute, there was no stopping the Thai girls from stamping their authority with two further goals in the Kwanreuthai Kumupatham in the 88th and 90th minute.
