JAKARTA (11 Feb 2013) – Rahmad Darmawan, who had led to Indonesia to the SEA Games silver medal in men’s football two years ago in Jakarta, might just be back at the helm of the current squad.
The current chief coach of Pelita Jaya is in contention for the top job at the Under-23 level alongside Aji Santoso, who was Rahmad’s assistant in 2011.
Aji was appointed by the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) after the last SEA Games while Rahmad has been asked to get back into the hot seat by KONI (Indonesia Olympic Council).
Asked if he would have any problem juggling his position with Pelita (in the Indonesia Super League) and also that at the national level, Rahmad (pix) said: “I don’t think so. For the sake of national duty, I think that I can do both jobs well.”
Surya Darma, the chief of athletes’ preparation, said that they have not decided to give the coaching position to which coach as yet. They have met with both personalities separately where each had discussed their plans for the Under-23 team for the SEA Games in Myanmar.
“We will have a discussion with KONI to decide on the final appointment,” added Surya.
