NAYPYITAW (18 Dec 2013) – Pattaya Piemkum, the Thai women’s Futsal coach was not a happy man after watching his team beat Myanmar 3-2 in the final round robin tie of the competition at the Naypyitaw Futsal Stadium today.
Despite winning a place in the final of the event where they will take on Vietnam in two days, Pattaya was shaking his head from side to side as he lament the attitude of his girls.
“We were not good, not good at all,” said the 45-year-old Pattaya. “Sure we made the final but the girls took it easy against Myanmar. They were so confident that we can win no matter what.
“They picked up yellow cards here and there which is not good. They have to be better than this in the final.”
The Thais are the overwhelming favourites for the crown where after the win today, saw them picked up the maximum 12 points from four matches played in the round robin group stage.
As usual Thailand showed their dominance early where after some pressing down the flanks, Sasicha Photiwong blasted in the lead in the third minute past Myanmar keeper Zin Min Tun.
Myanmar tried to push forward in search of the equaliser but in the 12th minute, they fell further behind when Pacharaporn Srimuang doubled the lead for the Thai girls as Orathai Srimanee then dribbled in to give them a 3-0 advantage just before the break.
The second half though was all Myanmar as Sandar Htwe nailed the first goal in the 21st minute after an earlier attempt from Nan Khan Mo was blocked by Thai custodian Pannipa Juijaroen.
With Thailand not making much effort to add to their tally, Myanmar then grabbed their second goal of the game when Khin Myo Win capitalised on the mistake of Thai defender Sasicha before round off Pannipa.
Tried as hard as they could for the equaliser but Thailand’s defence stood firm albeit lucky at times to walk away with winner.
“We just do not have enough quality. We need to have a relook at our women’s Futsal programme to make it better,” said Myanmar team manager Kyi min Thein after the game.
