MANILA (13 July 2013) – It will be more than just a friendly for the Philippines national Under-23 team when they take on the United Fooball League (UFL) All-Stars tomorrow night at the Emperador Stadium.
With their place at the SEA Games at the end of the month hanging in the balance, the team will be anxious to show to the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) that they deserve to be given the chance.
“First they must provide us some records of their previous performances that would prove they can win, and they must also know who are the tough teams they will be facing in the SEA Games,” said Jose Cojuangco Jr, the president of the POC.
“If the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) can make the standards, “they are in.”
But their road to getting the green light from the POC has not begun well when they conceded a 1-0 loss to Singapore in a friendly at the Hougang Stadium last month.
At the last SEA Games, the Philippines U23 side which boasted a flurry of foreign-based players won only once – a 1-0 win over Laos.
