NAYPYITAW (18 Dec 2013) – Thailand have a well rested side who will be ready to unleash their fury on Singapore in the SEA Games semi-finals of the men’s football event at the Zeyar Thiri Stadium tomorrow.
Thai coach Kiatisuk Senamuang had decided not to field seven first choice players in their last group match against Cambodia two days ago which meant that a lot of the players have been given enough time too recuperate.
It was no surprise then the Thais were held by Cambodia in that match. But one point was enough to see Thailand through.
“I wanted to rest some of our players as they have been playing very hard. Also I want them ready for the semi-finals,” said Kiatisuk.
Kiatisuk’s move allowed his stars to rest for five days.
The seven are goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan (pix), skipper Theerathon Bunmathan, defender Praweenwat Boon Yong, midfielders Pokklaw Anan, Kroekrit Thawikan and Charyl Chappuys, and striker Adisak Kraisorn.
The seven played in all the earlier matches. The break will have these seven all set and fired up to maul the young Lions tomorrow.
It was a calculated move by Kiatisuk but a crucial one as Thailand aims for their first gold medal they last won in 2007.
“Our objective is to win the gold medal and we will do our best to achieve this,” he added.
