YANGON (14 Dec 2013) – Hundreds of die-hard fans were at the stadium by 5am this morning. By 10am the numbers had swelled to the thousands hoping to buy the last batch tickets offer today.
It’s now three hours before the kick off of the crucial Myanmar-Thailand game and the compound of the stadium is absolutely packed. Fans are decked out in their teams’ colours and eager for the game to start.
Those coming in for the first match of the day between Indonesia and Timor Leste had to edge their way through the sea of fans.
Needless to say, expectations here are very high for a Myanmar win today and the prestigious gold medal at the end of the competition.
The local organisers are expecting fans to come in from around Yangon and have set up giant screens for those without tickets.
The security briefing this morning estimated that up to 100,000 fans could make their way to the stadium.
Security is very high and fans without tickets are not allowed into the vicinity of the stadium. The main road has also been closed.
