YANGON (15 Dec 2013) – Should Indonesia win tomorrow’s match against Myanmar, they will likely have an inferior goal difference. However, under the SEA Games competition regulations which are in line with the AFC regulations, Indonesia will qualify for the semifinals.
Indonesia have four points while Myanmar top the group with seven. If the Indonesians win, they will be on level terms with Myanmar. But Myanmar currently have a plus five goal difference while Indonesia are negative two. In FIFA or AFF competitions, if teams are level on points, the one with a better goal difference will move on.
Under AFC regulations, however, if there is a tie, the team that wins the head-to-head between the two teams will advance.
This obviously is some cause of concern for the Myanmar team who now feel they have to go all out for a win. While a draw is all they need to advance, they can’t afford to take any chances should Indonesia stage an upset.
