JAKARTA (16 Nov 2011) – Stefan Hansson, the chief coach of Myanmar, said after their win over Timor Leste last night that whether they win Group B or otherwise is now out of their hands.
He said that the team have done their best to win the group which is their initial target although with the way things stand at the moment, Vietnam will decide the outcome of the group winner when they face Laos tomorrow afternoon.
Myanmar currently lead the group on 13 points while Vietnam have 10 ten points.
“We have played well in all of our matches and we have been consistent even though at times, we not play to our full capability,” said Hansson. “But I’m satisfied with the commitment of the players where in the last few games, they are a lot more focused.
“To play competitive football at this level, we need to be more disciplined and we have done exactly that. If we don’t win the group, it is out of our hands.
“We have done the best that we possibly can. We are not afraid of anyone in the semi-finals although it would be good to finish the preliminary round as the group winners.”
Myanmar had opened their campaign with a 3-2 win over Laos before holding the 2009 runners-up Vietnam to a scoreless draw. They then beat Brunei with an emphatic 4-0 score line before drubbing the Philippines 5-0.
And last night, they finished the group stage with a close 1-0 win over Timor Leste.
Both Myanmar and Vietnam have yet to drop a game.
