JAKARTA (20 Nov 2011) – After being outclassed by hosts Indonesia in the semi-finals last night, Vietnam will now turn their energy to win the bronze medal ahead of Myanmar.
The 2009 runners-up were a pale shadow of themselves against Indonesia when compared to their performances in the group stage, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
Falko Goetz said that following the loss, they will now shift their attention to winning the bronze medal
“I hope that we will put up a better performance tomorrow to win the bronze medal ahead of Myanmar,” said Goetz. “Even though we failed to make the semi-finals, we are still committed for this last game.”
Goetz said that the reason for their loss in the semi-finals to Indonesia was due to their failure to keep possession and also the many individual mistakes cost the team dearly in the end.
“Sure, Indonesia pressured us but the more pertinent factor was our falure to keep possession and also the many individual mistakes did not help our cause,” added the German.
“The first goal was unfortunate while the second goal took a deflection. So for our last game against Myanmar, we will have to be much better than what we showed yesterday.”
