HANOI (29 Oct 2011) – The Vietnam national Futsal squad are currently in Spain – underlining their seriousness to challenge Thailand for the SEA Games gold medal.
Under new chief coach Sergio Gargelli from Italy, he has added further dimensions to their game and where the 17-member squad will be hoping that their trip to Spain will further hone their skills.
“The players’ technique and skills have improved considerably since the beginning of last year,” said Gargelli. “But the weakest point in our game currently is varying our attacking options against teams with strong defenders.
“But I think that we have improved in that department considerably from what was shown in a tournament in Hanoi earlier this month in which Vietnam finished third behind Qatar and Uzbekistan.”
The Vietnam team has been on an intense training programme since the start of the year where in Spain, they will be playing several matches against local clubs.
From Spain, they will head to Qatar, a futsal powerhouse in Asia, to play two friendly matches against the Qatari national team.
For the SEA Games, Vietnam are in Group A against the Philippines and Indonesia while Group B are Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar.
Futsal event at the SEA Games in Jakarta will begin on 15 November 2011.
