HANOI (10 Oct 2011) – Le Hung Dung, the chairman of the Eximbank, has offered an additional USD500,000 to the Vietnam team to win their first ever gold medal at the SEA Games next month.
Add to the same offer from the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group earlier, the total amount offered is now USD 1 million.
This does not include the additional cash incentives from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and other expected enterprises.
The highest previous offer for the gold medal was VND6 billion (USD285,000) for the 23rd SEA Games in the Philippines in 2005.
In the meantime, the Under-23 teams from Myanmar and Uzbekistan have been included for the VFF Cup later this month in Hanoi.
This follows the withdrawals of both Thailand and Indonesia, who have cited commitments with their domestic league as the reason for their decision not to take part.
The other two teams for the VFF Cup are Malaysia and hosts Vietnam.
