SEA GAMES 2011: TIMOR PICK UP SECOND WIN TO TOP GROUP B

LEBAK BULUS (7 Nov 2011) – Timor Leste picked up their second win in Group B of men’s football at the Lebak Bulus Stadium when they beat Philippines with a close 2-1 win to move them to the top of the table.

The Timorese had earlier beaten Brunei with the same 2-1 scoreline two days earlier.

But this time, they did not have to play catch up when in the 18^th minute of play, Murilo Ribeiro de Almeida made good on a cross from Antonio Marcos Souza.

However the Philippines, who had fallen to Vietnam 3-1 on the first match day, were not about to be caught out and they duly found the equalizer just eight minutes later when Jose Elmer Porteira drilled the ball in off a square from Patrick Hinrichsen.

The score at the end of the first half was 1-1. But just three minutes from the restart, Timor Leste made sure that they picked up their second full points of the competition off a clinical finishing from Diogo Santos Rangel.

Timor’s next match will be against Vietnam in two days.
