SEA GAMES 2011: TIMOR LOOK TO WIN REMAINING MATCHES

JAKARTA (10 Nov 2011) – Timor Leste team manager Amandio Samento, was not a happy man last night. After watching his team controlled the early part of the game, the loss of Ribeiro Murilo cost them the game against Vietnam in the end.

The Vietnamese went on to record a 2-0 win over Timor.

Amandio said afterwards that up to the point before the departure of Murilo, they were confident of taking the full points over Vietnam.

“I told the players to be careful of red cards. Obviously, Murilo did not listen,” said Amandio after the game.

“I thought that we had a fighting chance of winning the match. We were pressing them hard at the start and Vietnam were doing a lot of defending.

“But the loss of Murilo gave Vietnam more confident as we did not have enough strength upfront to pressure their backline. And in the end, we lost the tie.”

Timor Leste had gone into the match as Group B leaders following their identical 2-1 win over both Brunei and the Philippines. But following their loss to Vietnam, they have slipped down to third at the table – leaving their hope of a place in the semi-finals that much harder.

Timor Leste will take on Laos on 13^th November and then Myanmar on 15 November.

“We have no choice but to make sure that we win both of our remaining matches. The good news is that we will have Murilo back for the last game against Myanmar,” added Amandio.
