CIBUBUR (17 Nov 2011) – Thailand ran out 17-0 winners over Myanmar on the first day of their Futsal title defence as Hairul Ohorella saved hosts Indonesia the blushes when they held Vietnam to a 2-2 draw at the POPKI in Cibubur.
The Thais, who were winners in 2007, were a class above as they pressed Myanmar hard and rarely allowed their opponent to push forward. The Myanmar defence was under so much pressure that they even conceded two own goals from Than Wunna Aung in the 14th minute and Aung Thu in the 17th minute.
Three Thai players nailed a hat-trick each and they are Suphawut Thueanklang (1st, 24th and 35th minute), Apiwat Chaemcharoen (19th, 27th and 31st) and Jetsada Chudech (26th, 28th and 38thh).
The other goals for Thailand were scored by Lertchai Issarasuwipakorn (16th and 25th minute), Nattaphon Suttiroj (18th and 19th), Kritsada Wongkaeo (25th) and Nattavut Madyalan (39th).
Indonesia on the other hand had to rely on a late strike from Hairul Ohorealla before they were able to salvage a 2-2 draw against Vietnam.
The home team were leading 1-0 at the break off a seventh minute strike from Angga Surya Saputra. But Vietnam seemed to have gained some lessons from their recent trip to Spain as they then carved out two goals in the second half to put themselves 2-1 in front.
The goals for Vietnam were scored by Nguyen Hoang Giang in the 23rd minute and Hoang Vinh Tran ten minutes later.
But with just a minute remaining of the game, Hairul slotted the all-important equaliser to give the home team something to cheer about with the one point in the game.
Indonesia will take on the Philippines in the second game in Group A tomorrow evening.
In the women’s division, defending champions Thailand were also on the winning track when they whitewashed hosts Indonesia 8-0.
Orathai Srimanee nailed a hat-trick with goals in the second, tenth and 30th minute. Hathaichok Tappakun was on target twice (3rd and 26th minute) as Jiraprapa Nimrattanasing (12th), Darika Peanpailun (26th) and Nipaporn Sriwarom (39th) then added the other goals for the Thai win.
On the other hand, Vietnam had the best of start when Myanmar gifted them with an own goal just four minutes in through Aye Nandar Hlaing.
Vietnam then doubled their lead off Ngoc Hoa Trinh in the 24th minute as Thi Thuy Trang Tran the added the third goal in the 37th minute.
Myanmar’s only goal in the game came late through Khin Marlar Tun.
