SEA GAMES 2011: THAILAND WIN MEN AND WOMEN’S FUTSAL

CIBUBUR (22 Nov 2011) – Thailand won both the men and women’s Futsal event this afternoon, edging Vietnam in the final that was played at the POPKI in Cibubur.

In the men’s division, the Thais edged their counterparts from Vietnam 8-3 while in the women’s event, they emerged 4-2 winners.

Kritsada Wongkaeo followed up with his fine performance in the semi-finals to nab a hat-trick off goals in the 11^th, 34^th and 39^th minute as Suphawut Thueanklang nail a double with goals in the 2^nd and 30^th minute.

The other goals for Thailand were scored by Sermphan Khumthinkaew (11^th), Lertchai Issarasuwipakorn (28^th) and Jirawat Sornwichian (39^th). Vietnam found their goals through Trong Thien Nguyen in the 31^st minute, Trong Luan Phung (32^nd) and Hoang Vinh Tran (35^th).

In the meantime in the women’s division, Orathai Srimanee gave the Thais the best of start with the lead on sixth minute before Nipaporn Sriwarom then added the second goal on 15 minute.

But Vietnam pulled goal back in the 17^th minute through Thi Thuy Trinh Vo to put the score at 2-1 to the advantage of the Thais.

Thailand upped the tempo after the break with Sasicha Phothiwong scoring the third goal in the 22^nd minute as Ngoc Hoa Trinh found the target to close in at 3-2.

But Nipaporn had the last say with the fourth goal for Thailand to successfully defend the gold medal they won four years ago on home soil in 2007
