BANGKOK (6 Oct 2011) – Former champions Thailand have made it known that they want the gold back in the men’s football event at the 26th edition of the SEA Games which will be played out in Indonesia next month.
The Thais had been dominant from the early 90s onwards when they won the gold at the biennial championship for eight edition beginning from 1993.
However in 2009 in Laos, the defending champions were shown the exit by eventual winners Malaysia in the group stage.
But Thailand team manager Kasem Jariyawatwong said that this week that the target for the Under-23 team this year is to win the gold medal in Indonesia.
“I’m not worried about where Indonesia will arrange for us to play. We will try to bring the gold medal back to the country,” said Kasem.
