BANGKOK (20 Aug 2011) – With the SEA Games in Indonesia barely three months away, the Thai Under-23 team will start training in two days – an early indication for them to avoid the humiliation of two years ago.
The Thais, who were chasing their ninth crown in a row in Laos in 2009, did not even qualify for the semi-finals when they were denied by eventual champions Malaysia.
But this time round, the FA of Thailand (FAT) have managed to get the cooperation of the stakeholders in the Thai Premier League (TPL) and it has been agreed that the senior team and the national U23 team will be given priority over the league fixtures in the next several months.
The list of 30 players will be announced this week with a second camp already in the plan for early October either in Chiang Mai or Phuket.
The FAT have appointed Prapon Pongpanich from Bangkok United as the chief coach while Vithoon Kijmongkolsak will be the assistant.
