SINGAPORE (19 Oct 2011) – With their World Cup qualifying campaign in tatters following three heavy defeats in their first three matches, Singapore have now shifted their attention to the SEA Games which will be hosted by Indonesia early next month.
This follows a meeting between the management of the SEA Games squad and that of national chief coach Radojko Avramovic.
“After the meeting, it was decided that those Under-23 players in the national squad will play for the SEA Games team,” said Ashiq Idris, the team manager of the SEA Games team.
In the team list which was released by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), the several players from the senior squad which have been included for the flight to Jakarta are Hariss Harun, Muhd Safuwan Baharudin, Mohd Izwan Mahbud, Muhd Khairul Nizam Kamal and Shahdan Sulaiman.
The new was indeed a welcome for national U23 chief coach Slobodan Pavkovic whose team is chasing for their first ever gold medal.
Singapore’s best achievement at the biennial meet was the silver medal in 1983, 1985 and 1989.
Men’s football at the 26th edition of the SEA Games will open on 3 November 2011.
