SEA GAMES 2011: SINGAPORE CONCERN WITH 2PM KICK-OFF AGAINST INDONESIA

SINGAPORE (30 Oct 2011) – With the weather being what it is these days, Singapore are drawing attention to the 2pm kick-off against Indonesia on the third match day in Group A of men’s football at the SEA Games 2011 next month.

With the Young Lions already placed in what has been touted as the ‘Group of Death’, there were concerns that the afternoon kick off might affect their chance of a place in the semi-finals this year.

Singapore are in Group A against Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia while the easier Group B has Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines, Timor Leste, Brunei and Myanmar.

They will open their campaign against Malaysia (at 1600hrs on 7 November) and then Cambodia at 1900hrs two days later before the game against the hosts.

“We are taking every game seriously and we believe that the afternoon kick-off (at 2pm) in the match against Indonesia will be an issue,” said Mohd Ashiq Idris, Singapore national Under-23 team manager.

“We have already voiced our concern about the timing of the kick-off to the Singapore Olympic Council as we expect it to be very hot.”
