JAKARTA (21 Nov 2011) – More than just wanting to win the gold medal at the SEA Games this year, Indonesian striker Oktovianus Maniani will also be out to exact revenge on Malaysia when the two sides meet in the final of the men’s football event later this evening at the Gelora Bung Karno.
Okto, who had to sit out the final of the AFF Suzuki Cup last year due to a suspension, said that he is personally looking forward to playing against Malaysia where they hope to win their first gold medal in 20 years.
“Sure, the AFF Suzuki Cup and the SEA Game might be different teams but I’m still looking forward to the win. We have prepared the team as well as we can and I think that we are at the best level that we possibly can,” said Okto.
“Losing in the group stage was just one of those things which I think will not repeat again in the final. We are in the best state of mind currently and I think that we will prevail in this game against the Malaysians.
“Anyhow, we have the overwhelming support of the home team.”
Okto form part of an attacking triumvirate which also included Patrich Wanggai and on the right and Titus Bonai, who terrorized Vietnam into submission in the semi-finals. And the trio are expected to deliver much of the same against Malaysia.
