CIBUBUR (19 Nov 2011) – Three first half-goals made the difference for Malaysia as they beat Myanmar 4-3 to join Thailand in the semi-finals as the Philippines were dumped out of the Futsal event at the POPKI in Cibubur this evening.
The Malaysians, who were thrashed 9-2 by Thailand in their first game yesterday, bounced back to take the early lead through Qaiser Heshaam Abdul Kadir in the fourth minute and also Muizzudin Mohd Haris a minute later.
And while Aung Aung did pull a goal back for Myanmar in the 11th minute, the Malaysia’s then made sure that they had a 3-1 lead at the half with their third strike from Afif Najmi Muhamad Izwan in the 12th minute.
It was Myanmar who had the better start in the second half when they fought back to score two quick goals off Pyae Phyo Maung in the 32nd minute and then Htein Tin a minute later.
But Muhd Ali Mahat had the last say in the game with the winner for the Malaysians three minutes to the end.
With the win, Malaysia emerged as Group B runners-up behind defending champions Thailand.
On the other hand, Vietnam confirmed their place in the semi-finals as Group A winners when they demolished the Philippines 7-1. Indonesia finished as runners-up in the group with the same points as Vietnam but on lesser goal difference.
This evening, Vietnam showed their superiority with a brace each from Quynh Toan Luu (14th and 39th minute) and Hoang Giang Nguyen (24th and 34th minute). The other goals for Vietnam were scored by Bao Quan Nguyen (10th minute), Quoc Bao Nguyen (29th) and Trong Luan Phung (30th).
Ariel Zerrudo scored the only goal for the Philippines in the 13th minute although a minute to the end, he was red carded alongside team mate Misagh Bahadoran.
In the women’s division, Thailand had to work hard before they were able to beat Vietnam 2-1. The Thais fell to a Ngoc Hoa Trinh’s goal in the 18th minute before they fought back in the second half to score through Darika Peanpailun in the 24th minute and Jiraprapa Nimrattanasing two minutes to the end.
Indonesia picked up their second win when they beat the Philippines 10-2.Rani Sari scored four goals (2nd, 7th, 18th and 19th minute) to put the hosts on the way before further goals from Novita Murni Piranti (6th and 23rd), Maulina Novryliani (17th and 24th), Retno Ayu Dwi Wahyuningsih (9th).
The goals for the Philippines were Richelle Placencia in the third minute and Honey Thomason in the 17th minute.
