KUALA LUMPUR (31 Oct 2011) – Laos, the SEA Games 2009 semi-finalists, provided the scare for Malaysia when they went in front first before the hosts fought back in the second half for a 4-1 win in a friendly that was played at the MBPJ Stadium last night.
Sangvone Phinmmasen nailed the lead for Laos in the 20th minute before the Malaysians staged a revival after the break with goals off Fandi Othman (62nd minute), a brace from Syahrul Azwari Ibrahim (72nd and 77th) and then A. Thamil Arasu (82nd).
“The boys need to shake off this idea of playing below standard when they play against teams whom they considered as being lesser of an opponent. There are no easy teams or easy games anymore and they must be at 100% in every match,” said Ong Kim Swee, the chief coach of the Malaysian U23.
“They must not repeat this when they start their campaign at the SEA Games.”
Both Malaysia and Laos are preparing for the 26th edition of the SEA Games which will be hosted by Indonesia next month.
