JAKARTA (19 Nov 2011) – The Vietnam team could not have got better motivation ahead of their clash against hosts Indonesia in the semi-finals of the men’s football event tomorrow than getting cash incentives from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
For winning Group B, the VFF have decided to reward the squad with a bonus of VND1 billion (USD50,000). VFF chairman Nguyen Trong Hy also announced that the team would receive a further VND1 billion if they made it to the final.
Vietnam won Group B when they came back from a goal down to beat Laos 3-1 in their last group tie.
In the meantime, Vietnam chief coach Falko Goetz will have to do some changes to the backline following the red card on defender Nguyen Thanh Long Giang in their last game which meant the latter will not be available for the match against Indonesia.
“It is unfortunate that we will not have Long Giang for the match against Indonesia,” said Goetz. “But I think that we have enough quality in reserves to ensure that his absence will not be felt.
“It is a tough game in the semi-finals for sure but I think that we had enough games in the preliminary round to give the team confidence.
“The important thing is that the players should keep to the tactical discipline and not get swayed by anything that happens on or off the field.”
