KUALA LUMPUR (19 Nov 2012) – Malaysian captain Safiq Rahim, was in high spirits today following the announcement that he had signed on with 100PLUS as their Brand Ambassador. The signing was a timely booster as it comes just days before Safiq leads the national team into battle.
Safiq, 25, has the tough task of leading the Malaysian charge as they try to defend the ASEAN crown this year. Malaysia, winners of the previous edition two years ago, open their campaign against Singapore on 24 Nov followed by their second game against Laos on 27 Nov and then face-off against Indonesia on 1 Dec.
“This partnership is recognition of my efforts and I would like to express my thanks to 100PLUS for believing in me,” said Safiq (right of pix). “For me, this announcement is perfectly timed as it comes just before we prepare for the big battle ahead. Good news always helps motivate us as players and this definitely encourage me to do my very best.”
Safiq joins an exclusive group of top national athletes which includes world No. 1 badminton star, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, world-class diving ace and Olympic bronze medallist Pandelela Rinong, national football players Safee Sali and Khairul Fahmi Che Mat as 100PLUS Brand Ambassadors.
100PLUS is also the Official Drink sponsor of the national track cycling team and is the Recommended Drink of the National Sports Council.
100PLUS, Malaysia’s number one isotonic drink, and Safiq have agreed to a two-year deal with options.
“We are thrilled to have Safiq as a Brand Ambassador. He is an outstanding athlete with exceptional leadership qualities that has contributed to the national team’s success. He is also an ideal role model for young Malaysians,” said Ms Cariessa Goh, Corporate Affairs Manager, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn. Bhd (left of pix).
“Safiq embodies the very essence of 100PLUS’ Outdo Yourself spirit which we hope will prevail in his upcoming matches.”
For the record, Malaysia, the ASEAN champions, will host Group B which comprises Singapore, Laos and Indonesia. Thailand will host Group A in Bangkok and will have the Philippines, Vietnam and Myanmar for company.
