SINGAPORE (31 Oct 2012) – Singapore Armed Forces FC (SAFFC) came back from a goal down to beat Tampines Rovers 2-1 in the final of the Singapore Cup that was played at the Jalan Besar Stadium this week.
An own goal in the 25th minute by SAFFC goalkeeper Shahril Jantan was not the start they were looking for but the former S-League champions maintained their composure to score two goals in the second half for the win.
The equaliser came in the 78th minute through Shimpei Sakurada before SAFFC substitute Erwan Gunawan nailed the winner right at the end following some hesitant Tampines defending.
The loss for Tampines prevented them from winning the double this year where they will be heading into the final game of the S-League season this week against Harimau Muda. A win will see them win their crown in two years while a loss will allow DPMM FC the chance to lift the title for the first time ever should the latter overcome Balestier Khalsa.
Tampines are one point ahead of DPMM FC.
