SINGAPORE (5 March, 2008) – Double winners Singapore Armed Forces FC (SAFFC) and Super Reds are on top of the NTUC Income-YEO’S S.League after just three matches into the new season.
Both teams came away from their first three games in the league unscathed as SAFFC blasted Sengkang Punggol 3-0 while the Super Reds were the victors in a close 1-0 win over the Young Lions. SAFFC scored all their goals in the first half of the tie with the first coming off Masahiro Fukasawa’s header (30th minute) from a cross off Therdsak Chaiman, the second from Aleksandar Duric (38th minute) and the third from Jamil Ali (44th minute). The win for SAFFC was a follow-up from their 3-1 win over Albirex Niigata in their first league game of the season and then a 3-1 over Geylang United in their second. On the other hand, Super Reds’ made sure that they keep in touch with the leaders with a close 1-0 win over the Young Lions at the Jalan Besar Stadium. This follows their identical 2-1 wins over Woodlands Wellington and Dalian Shide Siwu earlier as they maintained a similar nine points haul from three matches with SAFFC. And even though the score was just 1-0 to their advantage against the Young Lions, their domination in the match was beyond reproach. The Korean side were dominant at both ends of the pitch and were just unlucky not to rack up the humiliation as they scored the only goal of the game in the 31st minute off Moon Soon Ho. Tampines Rovers are third in the standings with seven points from four matches while Home United are fourth with the same points albeit with a game less. Bottom of the table is Dalian Shide Siwu, who have yet to pick up a single point from their first three league matches in the S-League. CURRENT 2008 NTUC INCOME – YEO’S S.LEAGUE TABLE 1.
