BANGKOK (2 April 2011) – Bryan Robson, the chief coach of Thailand is confident that his team can reach the group stage of the Asian qualifiers of the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Following the draw for the Asian qualifiers this week in which Thailand gained a first round bye, Robson is pleased that he will meet either Palestine or Afghanistan in the second round.
“I am satisfied with the draw. I have seen Palestine play against Thailand in an Olympic qualifying round tie last month and they looked very competitive. We cannot underestimate any team in the World Cup qualifying round,” said the former England captain.
“However, I expect Thailand to put on a good performance home and away to go through to the group stage.”
The Thai Olympic team, coached by Charnwit Phalajivin, edged Palestine on penalties after a 1-1 draw on aggregate.
Thailand’s senior side will begin their 2014 World Cup qualifying round on 23 July and 28 July on a home-and-away basis.
