VIENTIANE (19 Sept 2011) – Former Indonesia national chief coach Alfred Riedl is set to sign a three-year contract with the Laos Football Federation (LFF) – marking a return to the side he managed two years ago for the SEA Games 2009 when they were the hosts.
“I will sign a three-year deal with Laos. In October, I will start my new job as Laos national team technical director and oversee them during the SEA Games. They’ve already told me I will have the privilege of picking the players for the squad,” said Riedl (pix).
“However, come January next year I will play a new role as the head coach of the Laos senior and Under-23 national teams.”
Riedl, who led Laos to the semi-finals of the SEA Games in 2009, signed to become the chief coach of Indonesia where he led them to the final of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010.
But his stint was cut short following the election of new office bearers for the PSSI which decided to appoint Wim Rijsbergenas the new chief coach of Indonesia.
Riedl is reportedly asking for IDR 1.7 billion (USD194,000) in compensation from the PSSI.
“I still had 10 months on my contract with the PSSI when they fired me, so I asked for compensation for those 10 months.,” added Riedl.
