HO CHI MINH CITY (9 August 2009) – Nugraha Besoes, the head of delegation of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) to the AFF Under-19 Championship has reminded teams to practice more restrain in the semi-finals tomorrow at the Thong Nhat Stadium.
Thailand will take on Malaysia in the first semi-finals tomorrow while hosts Vietnam will be up against Australia in the second match of the day. At the team managers’ meeting this morning, Nugraha said that the accumulation of yellow and red cards in the group matches have been alarming. “The teams have only played 12 matches but there were already 9 red cards and 40 yellow cards – this is not good,” said Nugraha. “The teams have a responsibility to remind the players to put up better behaviour. They are young players and they have to be taught with more discipline. “We want quality matches in the semi-finals, so we hope that there will be more restrain from the players.” FURTHER QUOTES “We watched Malaysia played yesterday and from there, we will have to strategise our tactics against a team which play almost the same style as us.” – Chalermvud Sangnapol, Thailand head coach “We saw them (Thailand) watching us from the stand. And in spite of the win over Myanmar, I know that we can play a lot better.” – Ong Kim Swee, Malaysia head coach “It was tough against Timor Leste but I think that the players have at least realised the danger of taking it easy against anyone.” – Vo Hoang Buu, Vietnam head coach “The players are coming together as a team and we are just looking at another strong performance.” – Alistair Edwards, Australia assistant coach FIXTURES and RESULTS 4 August 2009 Thong Nhat Stadium – 6 August 2009 Thong Nhat Stadium – 8 August 2009 Thong Nhat Stadium – 10 August 2009 12 August 2009 Final – Winner SF1 vs Winner SF2 (1745) |
