SURABAYA (20 Feb 2010) – Persebaya Surabaya got a reprieve from the Disciplinary Committee of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) when the four-year ban on their fans was reduced to just two years.
‘Bonek’ or ‘Green Force’ as their fans are known as following a recent name change, will not be allowed to support their Persebaya Surabaya team in the team green colours at home or away in all PSSI-organised competitions. Earlier, the Disciplinary Committee had handed a four-year ban on the fans in all Persebaya Surabaya home matches. “The sentence meted out by the committee is light although the fans will not be allowed to support the Persebaya Surabaya team in their traditional green colours or through posters or slogans,” said committee chairman Rusdi Taher. “We want a change in the attitude of the Persebaya Surabaya fans and also that of the club management. “The Rp 50 million (USD5,300) sanction fee which was placed on Persebaya Surabaya for damages at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium following fans rioting in the match against Persib Bandung (on 23 January) has been lifted,” said Rusdi. “There is no sanction fee since Persib Bandung did not make any claims for it. However, the Rp 200 million (USD21,400) fine which was meted out to the Persebaya Surabaya team management stays. They have to make good to PSSI.” |
