PHNOM PENH (4 July 2008) – A strike four minutes to the end from Chim Ratanak gave Phnom Penh Empire FC the top spot in the Cambodia Premier League 2008 when they beat National Defense Ministry FC 2-1 at the National Olympic Stadium.
The score up to that point was 1-1 with Phnom Penh striking early in the tenth minute off Srey Veasna before Khim Borey found the equaliser for National Defense just six minutes into the second half. With the win and the three points, Phnom Penh bumped Build Bright United FC off the top of the standings after amassing 18 points from seven matches into the new season. Build Bright are still on second with 16 points but have played a game more. In the meantime, Naga Corp FC moved up to third at the table with a comprehensive 6-1 beating of Phuchung Neak FC. Meas Channa nailed a hat-trick with goals in the 13th, 33rd and 70th minute while Ndajana Pierre scored a brace (32nd and 35th minute) and N. D. H. Ernest adding the final touch six minutes to the final whistle. Phuchung’s only goal of the afternoon was scored by Hok Sochivorn in the 24th minute.
