HO CHI MINH CITY (22 Oct 2009) – Nguyen Quang Hai’s second half strike was enough to drive Vietnam past Turkmenistan in the first match of the Ho Chi Minh City International Football Tournament at Thong Nhat Stadium yesterday.
Quang Hai timed his run to perfection in the 58th minute to beat the offside trap before putting the ball past the Turkmenistan goalkeeper Berdiyev Bayramniyaz. Turkmenistan are the defending champions. “The victory is not a surprise, but a deserved win because our players competed with determination, confidence and concentration,” said Le Huynh Duc, the national assistant coach. In the meantime, the Vietnam national Under-23 side did not fare as well when they fell to a 2-1 defeat to South Korea’s Chunnam Dragons in a friendly at the National My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi. Vietnam are using the game as part of their warm-up for the SEA Games in Laos in December. |
