JAKARTA (24 Dec 2011) – The much anticipated Jakarta Challenge between Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and a Jakarta Selection has been called off. Append below is the full statement from organisers Saujana Media.
“Saujana Media regret to inform that following discussions with the various stakeholders in the tournament, we have decided to postpone the Jakarta Challenge indefinitely.
The current crisis within the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) and the unavailability of the top local players has left us without any credible Indonesian team for the competition.
It is regrettable that while we were promised the best players as per the contract, the same is now not delivered by the PSSI.
We are also informed now that we cannot field the Jakarta Selection team as per our selection. We now basically have no second Indonesian team.
Going on with the tournament at this point of time would be a big risk on us financially and we would like to limit the current loss.
We are not confident that the ticketing for the Jakarta Challenge would assist to relieve the financial burden of bringing the PSV Eindhoven team to Jakarta.
Both our event partners and Saujana Media have also been unable to convince sponsors of the credibility of the event without the fielding of the top Indonesian players.
We would also like to thank our event partners – SCTV, Gosport, Sultan Hotel, Qi – for their support of the event. We would also like to thank the media for their support of the event activities.”
