JAKARTA (4 May 2015) – The FA of Indonesia (PSSI) have decided to stop and cancel all domestic competitions under their jurisdiction with immediate effect.
Following the continued deadlock with the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the PSSI Executive Committee which met this week decided that stopping all competitions were the best recourse.
Hinca Panjaitan, the deputy president of the PSSI, said that the situation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports has reached ‘force majeure’ which in turn meant that competitions at all levels in 2015 is regarded as having stopped and concluded.
“Competitions for the Indonesia Super League, First Division, Nusantara Cup and also Soeratin Cup 2015 is stopped and concluded due to the current condition (force majeure),” said Hinca Panjaitan.
“There are forces outside our legal recourse which is forcing the PSSI into ‘force majeure’ through the letters from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to PSSI (no.01307 dated 17 April 2015) which do not recognize the PSSI and also another to the National Police (no. 01386 dated 20 April 2015) which do not give recommendations for them to issue permit to play matches,” explained Hinca.
“It is with deep regret and with our sincere apologies to the whole of the Indonesian people that we have come to such a decision. We regret having to put a stop to all competitions but we have to protect the independence of the PSSI.”
Joko Driyono, the chief executive officer of PT Liga Indonesia – the organiser of the Indonesian Super League – added that should there be a change in the stand of the PSSI Executive Committee, then the league will begin but with a new name.
“Possible it will have to be ISL 2015-2016 or something like that. But it will not be a resumption of the current league,” he added.
