JAKARTA (11 June 2011) – Agum Gumelar, the chairman of the Normalisation Committee, has set 9 July 2011 as the date for the Indonesia FA (PSSI) Congress.
The Congress to choose the new Executive Committee of the PSSI was initially supposed to be held on 30 June 2011 but Agum pointed out that they needed to meet the requirements of the statutes before they can hold the Congress.
“AFC (Asian Football Confederation) told us that based on PSSI statutes, association members have to receive an official invitation for the election at least four weeks before an election is held. So we will break the rule if we hold it on June 30, because we have yet to send any invitations,” said Agum.
“We then consulted with FIFA on the issue. FIFA responded by sending a letter to the committee on Wednesday, stating that the election could be held no later than 10 July or Indonesia would be automatically suspended on 11 July 2011.”
The Congress will still be held in Solo – the birth place of the PSSI.
“We don’t want to break the statutes as it will cause other problems. Election date now is 9 July 2011 at the Sunan Hotel, Solo,” he said.
