JAKARTA (19 March 2009) – The Indonesia FA (PSSI ) have decided against sending their Under-23 squad to Uruguay for an intended training stint ahead of the SEA Games in Laos at the end of the year.
Instead, the U23 squad will be based in Palembang, Sumsel. “We have decided to put the U23 team in Palembang considering that there will be several international “try outs” which will be conducted including their participation for the Intercontinental Cup in Malaysia,” said Nurdin Halid, the PSSI president. Apart from the stint overseas, the PSSI are also arranging for the U23 squad to take part in an international tournament in celebration of the 79th anniversary of PSSI which will involve the participation of five teams. However in spite of the change, Uruguayan Cesar Payovich will still be given the responsibility to handle the SEA Games squad. “From 1 April to the end of May, Payovich will be making a selection criteria to sift the squad of 30 to just 22 players,” said Hamka Kady, the head of the Indonesian national team management. From the initial squad of 28 players, a further ten players have been put into the list including Boaz Solossa and Ian Kabes.
