JAKARTA (8 May 2015) – Dutchman Pieter Huistra has been announced as the interim coach of the Indonesian national team. Huistra is the current Technical Director of the FA of Indonesia (PSSI).
This follows the decision of the PSS Executive Committee which met earlier this week.
“We have decided to appoint Huistra in the interim. We will evaluate his progress after the World Cup qualifying matches against Chinese Taipei and Irak,” kata acting general secretary of the PSSI, Azwan Karim.
“Why have we decided on an interim coach? We have little choice due to the volatility of football in Indonesia at the moment. We had some good individuals wanting to be the Indonesian national coach but they backed down because of the prevailing situation.”
Indonesia will take on Chinese Taipei on 11 June and then against Iraq five days later.
“I want to show to the Indonesian people that they can still be proud of football in Indonesia in spite of all the problems that are plaguing the game at the moment,” added Huistra.
