DILI (25 May 2012) – Former AFC President HRH Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah was presented with the prestigious FIFA Order of Merit on the opening day of the 62nd FIFA Congress in Hungary.
HRH Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah is the current President of both the FA of Malaysia (FAM) and also the Asean Football Federation (AFF).
HRH Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah led the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as their President from 1994 until 2002, during which time he played an influential role in giving a new vision to Asian football.
HRH Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah’s stewardship of the AFC for eight years saw the continental game take off in the right direction and scale new heights. New and exciting milestones were the order of his presidency as the confederation grew in stature and made a name of their own.
HRH Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah’s dedicated efforts also saw world football’s biggest extravaganza – the FIFA World Cup – being co-hosted successfully for the first time by two Asian countries – Japan and Korea Republic – in 2002.
