PETALING JAYA (21 Feb 2009) – Whoever is appointed to the hot seat of being the new Malaysia national team coach will have to carry the task of being the national Under-23 team boss as well for the SEA Games which will be held in Laos later this year.
Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad, the general secretary of the FA of Malaysia (FAM) did not deny on this possibility considering the international calendar for this year. Apart from the SEA Games in Laos which is for teams under the age of 23-years-old, the only other major tournament is the Merdeka Tournament in August and the second game of the Asian Cup 2011 qualifiers in November. “I can’t say no this possibility because the main tournament this year is the SEA Games in Laos which involves the U23 squad,” said Azzuddin. “And when it comes down to cost, of course it is less expensive to have just one coach handling two teams. But this is just a possibility as the final decision will only be made at the Exco meeting next month.” The FAM are now on the search for a new national team coach following the exit of B. Sathianathan last month. Among those who have been shortlisted by the Malaysian national body are K. Rajagobal, the head coach for Harima Muda, Azraai Khor Abdullah with Kedah and Dollah Salleh from Shahzan Muda. |
