KUALA LUMPUR (June 29, 2007) – Bora Milutinovic gave clear pointers on how Asean teams can be successful for the Asian Cup 2007 – and that is, they must have the support of their respective citizens.
Speaking at the post match press conference after seeing his Jamaican side brushed Malaysia 2-0 Bora, as he is more affectionately known as said that the key to doing well is creating the right vibes. “It is not correct to compare the three teams which we have played against – between Indonesia, Vietnam and now Malaysia,” said Milutinovic after the match at the National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur (pic). “But the most important point is the need to believe in your team – and to do well everybody in the country must join in as it is the effort of not only the players but also every citizen should get behind the national campaign.” The Bora-led Jamaican side conceded a 2-1 loss to Indonesia in their first game and then a 3-0 loss to Vietnam before their win over Malaysia. And Jamaica made sure of the victory with goals from Christopher Harvey in the 45th minute and then Worly Wolfe in the 47th minute. However Milutinovic admitted that none of the groups in the Asian Cup will be easy although a surprise is certainly not impossible. Four Asean countries – Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam – will be hosting the Asian Cup 2007 next month. “There must be a realisation that the players are playing under pressure and certainly they do not need the fans to pressure them further. They need support more than anything else,” added Bora. “Creating positive energy is the best thing for any team wanting to do well and young players need positive energy to inspire them.” |
