BANGKOK (19 March, 2008) – Port Authority of Thailand kept their nerves in check and produced one of their best game of the season when they beat TOT 3-2 to be crowned as the champions of the Thai Futsal League 2008.
Their close 3-2 win over TOT – with Tanakorn Santhanaprasit nailing a brace (16th and 25th minute) while Manus Madtorha scoring the first goal in the 15th minute – allowed them to win the title following the defeat their nearest challenger Cat Telecom suffered at the hands of Chonburi Bluewave. Cat Telecom conceded a 6-5 loss to Chonburi. Cat Telecom who had gone into the weekend at the top of the Thai Futsal League on better goal difference just could not contained Chonburi when they were held to a 2-2 draw at the break. Chonburi’s goals in the first half were scored by Ekkapong Suratsawang in the seventh minute and Lertchai Issarasuwipakorn in the 13th minute while Jirawat Sornvichien (eighth minute) and Keattiyot Chaleankhet (19th minute) scored for Cat Telecom. But Cat Telecom had a bright start after the restart when Anucha Munjarern and Narongsak Kongkeaw (both goals scored in the 25th minute) put them two goals ahead only for Francisco Jackson to pull a goal back in the 29th minute. And while Oswaldo Freitas did restore the two-goal lead for Cat Telecom in the 32nd minute, there was no stopping Chonburi when they rallied in the closing stages of the game to blast in three goals for the fabulous win. Surasak Arjaiem was on target in the 37th minute before Suppwut Teuanklang nailed a late double in the 38th and 40th minute. The win denied not only Cat Telecom the championship but also allowed Chonburi the chance to end the season as the second best Futsal team in Thailand. In the women’s division of the Thai Futsal League 2008, C.A.S. The T-Rexor completed their season with a 7-4 win over Chonburi Bluewave to be crowned as the overall winners. T-Rexor’s goals were scored by Nipaporn Sriwarom (1st and 23rd minute), Orathai Srimanee (4th and 25th minute), Jiraprapa Tubsuri (7th minute), Sirunya Srimanee (10th minute) and Jiraprapa Nimratnasing (15th minute).
