BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (8 April 2012) – His Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, the Honorary President of the National FA of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD), feels that playing in Malaysian League will be good for Brunei’s winning Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy (HBT) team.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam had this week decreed that the victorious HBT squad form the nucleus of Brunei national football team under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
“If we want to improve, we have to (look at playing in the Malaysian League). The more they play overseas the better they will be,” said Prince Sufri, who also heads the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.
“NFABD is looking into it. We are still in the planning stages.
Brunei’s only professional club DPMM FC are playing in the Singapore S-League at the moment. The sultanate side had previously played in the Malaysian League where in 1999, they lifted the Malaysia Cup crown for the first time ever.
