PHNOM PENH (10 Oct 2016) – The loss of star striker Khampheng Sayavutthi and two other key players could not have come at a worse time for Laos who are fighting to win the AFF Suzuki Cup Qualifying round and land a place in the prestigious final rounds next month.
“We are without three key players including our main striker Khampheng. This means we now have 20 players here including three goalkeepers,” said Laos coach Veunsavanh Sivisay, who admitted that it would be tough for the team.
Despite the major setback, Sivisay said that it was important for the team to move on and concentrate their efforts on the qualifiers.
“I told the players to forget about the missing striker and the other injured players and not worry about them. We are here representing our country.”
The three players picked up their injuries in their last match against Maldives.
Laos, who along with Myanmar qualified for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014, will open their campaign against Cambodia tomorrow evening.
