PHNOM PENH (13 May 2014) – As Phnom Penh Crown kept chase at the top of the standings, Asia Europe University strengthened their position in mid-table of the Metfone Cambodia-League this week when they held leaders Naga Corp FC to a 1-1 draw at the National Olympic Stadium.
AEU grabbed the lead after just 24 minutes when George Kelechi fired in from the edge of the box before Choun Chhum then drew level for Naga ten minutes later.
But the game should have been AEU’s for the taking had not Mohammad Hamza missed a penalty in the second half.
While AEU moved up to sixth at the standings with 16 points from 11 matches, the disappointment for Naga Corp was obvious as even though they are at the top of the table at the moment, second-placed Phnom Penh Crown FC and also Boueng Ket have played a match less.
In the meantime, Phnom Penh Crown picked up the full points with a 1-0 win over struggling Western University, with Khim Borey whipping in a wicked free-kick at the Old Stadium.
