PHNOM PENH (25 Nov 2008) – It was not a spectacular end but Phnom Penh Empire did wrap up the Cambodia Premier League (CPL) 2008 title with six points to spare against nearest rivals National Defense Ministry FC.
Having already lost the last two matches, Empire dropped three more points in their final game of the season when they conceded a 2-0 defeat to National Defense Ministry. Two goals from the league’s top scorer Kim Borey (in the 17th and 47th minute) were enough to see off Empire as National Defense completed the season with 34 points to finish just a point ahead of Naga Corp FC on third. Naga’s 1-0 win over Preah Khan Reach FC off a solitary strike from O. Mohamadou in the 42nd minute was not enough to overhaul National Defense in the final count.
