PHNOM PENH (Oct 5, 2007) – Phnom Penh Empire strengthened their grip at the top of the Cambodian Premier League when they scored a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 win over Royal Cambodian Armed Forces FC.
In the match that was played at the National Olympic Stadium, Empire made sure of the points from their first game in the second round of the league when Ajayi Gbenga Samual opened account in the 30th minute before Hok Sochivorn added the second in the 88th minute to stay top of the table. With the match between third-placed Khemara Keila FC and second-placed Naga Corp FC postponed due to Khemara’s participation in the AFC President’s Cup in Pakistan, it has given Empire some breathing space – at least for now. On the other hand, Red Eagle FC strengthened their position in mid-table when they crushed Lion Squad FC 5-2. A hat-trick from Chidinda Joseph (21st, 47th and 65th minute) and two further goals from Soth Sa Aun (71st minute) and Phany Chamroeun (89th minute) were enough to allow Red Eagle to soar into the top half of the standings. Lion Squad’s goals were scored by Seth Kamel in the 17th minute and Nwakuna Friday ten minutes to the end. For Build Bright University, they finally snapped their winless streak in the league to thump Baksey Chamkrong FC 5-0. A first-half goal from Chhun Sothiarath (44th minute) was followed by Prum Putsithy (47th), Pech Saravoeun (57th), Nnamdi Sylverster (73rd) and Phan Sophanara (89th) for the well-deserved victory in front of several thousand fans.
