PHNOM PENH (16 August 2010) – Defending champions Naga Corp FC’s failure to stamp their authority in the first half saw them being dumped out of a place in the final of the Metfone Cambodian League 2010 following their humiliating 4-2 loss to fierce rivals Phnom Penh Crown FC in the play-offs yesterday.
Playing in the second match of the play-offs, Phnom Penh were a lot more composed in the tie and they duly took a 3-0 lead at the half before scoring their last goal towards the end for the final results. And while Naga Corp did score two goals after the break, it was just a little too late to prevent Phnom Penh from advancing through to the 21 August final where they will meet Preah Khan Reach FC. In front of more than 8,000 spectators, crown favourite J. Uche Prince found the space and time to slot the lead in the 21st minute for Phnom Penh before Sun Sophana then added the second goal two minutes later. With Just five minutes left on the clock of the first-half, Sok Pheng then blasted in the third goal to give Phnom Penh a comfortable 3-0 lead. Naga Corp then tweaked their frontline after the break somewhat for O. S. Eromosele to score (50th minute) as captain Sun Sovanrithy added the second goal five minutes later for them to trail 3-2. But with time ticking down, Sun Sophana then added his second and Phnom Penh’s fourth goal of the afternoon to win the tie and a place in the final. |
